This week was awesome, and we had so much success! It started off last Monday in our lesson with Marines, Silveiro, e Leonardo. Marines had many questions that we helped answer, however the main principle we taught was the Holy Ghost. The spirit was so strong as we testified and preached, and we also have a date for them! They will be baptized on the 26th of November! We are excited for them, and are seeing the gospel change their lives!
On Wednesday, Elder Soares and I had an awesome lunch consisting of rice, beans, potatoes, chicken, steak, and chicken hearts, (chicken hearts are actually pretty good believe it or not - I forgot to take a picture, but there were tons!). After lunch we decided to try to visit a less active member. On our way to her house, we saw a man sitting down on a bench looking down at the ground. We stopped to talk with him. We soon found out that his wife had recently passed away, and he is really having a hard time coping with this. Elder Soares and I immediately brought up the Plan of Salvation, and told him that it isn´t the end. He really will see his wife again one day. He immediately looked up and looked us in the eyes. The spirit was strong, and we set a time when we could visit him again and teach him more. We visited him again on Saturday. We taught him, his 3 children and 2 grandkids. It was an amazing lesson, and they all loved the idea of eternal families. It is so amazing that this gospel can help us with the hard times in our lives. This obligation that not just missionaries have, but everyone has is very important. Share the gospel, and the light of Christ with everyone. We are going to visit them again this Wednesday afternoon, and we are both very excited to return.
We also were out making contacts on the street on Saturday. We started talking to a man named Romolo. He is 20 years old, and lives with his wife. They also were very interested in the idea of eternal families. We were able to visit them later that day in their house, and teach the Plan of Salvation. It went very well, and they both have committed to be baptized. We also invited them to church, and as we walked into the chapel yesterday, there they were with their Book of Mormon. They are awesome, and it is a blessing that we were able to find them.
By the way, they already are playing and singing Christmas music here in São Jose. We sang 'Joy to the World' yesterday in church, and there are already lights out in the street. One thing that the United States might lack. The Brazilians truly have the Christmas Spirit with them!
I wanted to share a quick thought today about the Plan of Salvation. I believe it was President Uchtdorf who spoke about it this past conference. He said that when people hear about the Plan of Salvation, they should be interested. "It should have a familiar ring in their ears." This is so true. Perhaps one of the most effective ways for us missionaries here to make contacts is by talking a little about the Plan of Salvation. It interests people because we have all heard this plan before. We all agreed to this Plan also. We all have a purpose here on Earth, and God has given us this opportunity to be here because he knows we can become better. I am grateful for the opportunity I have to share this message. This Plan is marvelous, and Heavenly Father loves us.
